Is there something of use in “The Associated Press Stylebook”?
Asking me to choose one thing in “The Associate Press
Stylebook” that is of use is extremely difficult to do. I find each page filled
with new knowledge and information that I did not know. However, I have found
that certain sections of the book are more helpful in my day-to-day life. That
section is the punctuation guide.
As college students we are required to write many different
papers and essays. However, one thing I find is that each student requires multiple
revision processes on his assignments. The most common mistakes that I have
found as I have peer-edited documents are mistakes in punctuation.
The punctuation guide in “The Associated Press Stylebook” contains
eleven pages regarding the different punctuation marks and their proper uses.
Before, I questioned on a common basis the proper use of the semi-colon and
commas. Now, I find the information easy to access to properly use the
different forms of punctuation.
I am excited to continue using “The Associated Press
Stylebook” and to discover the other helpful sections that will change my
ability to write and my ability to revise other’s papers as well.
No error this week? My favorite part of this blog is seeing what mistakes others have found. I agree with you on the "easy to access" part of the Stylebook. Sometimes what I am looking for isn't easy because it is listed under something else or in its own section. Getting familiar with the book and its listings is half the battle when using the book.
