Topical Guide For Quick Reference

The topical guide is great. It condenses a lot of items that AP Stylebook covers. I like the way that it breaks down content. It's visually clear, which makes it easy to read. There are a lot of quick tips for errors that writers frequently trip up on. It makes a clear distinction for active and passive voice. It also clarifies common mistakes such as affect/effect and further/farther. I actually pulled it out for my boyfriend because he can never remember the difference for further/farther. He doesn't understand my explanation of physical distance versus figurative distance. He didn't believe me after explaining it to him again, so I showed him the topical guide. After reading the description he asked me about reading further in a book. Could it be farther due to physical distance of pages? (Think book closed, page-edge side. You've literally read farther along.) It made me laugh. We didn't know the answer so we looked it up online and found a similar sentence on a grammar blog. It suggested that it could be used either way, both were right in this case, and that common use has been mixed up for decades.

This is the grammar mistake I found this week. It is pretty funny if you have heard of the song by Tenacious D. It is a reference to the lyrics. It should read. "This is not the greatest car in the world. No. This is just a tribute. The commas could also be correct, but the spacing is an error. The first comma should be right after the word world, instead of touching the word no.
