Week 5

I am week behind because I have been traveling for work, I apologize for the delayed post. For week 5, we are to talk about good online grammar websites that we use. There are actually two that I use frequently, Purdue Owl and Grammar Girl.

This site has ben a life saver for me more times than I can recall. They are a great reference for APA and MLA writing styles, as well as resource for how to properly research and cite references. I like this site because it is well-written and -organized. They do a good job of showing examples that help you memorize rules that you reference. Purdue Owl is a great resource if you need a quick reference site.

This site is much more light-hearted, which I like, but is also a great reference for grammar. The author of this site adds humor to the everyday faux pas we see in our daily, written lives. She offers many examples and suggestions on how to memorize grammar rules. She also is very well-read and has a long list of books she recommends. My favorite thing is that she posts a lot of memes and ecards that exemplify the horrible ways in which grammar is used these days.

I would recommend either of these sites to someone who is looking for a quick reference and legit explanation of grammatical rules.

The error I found this week comes to you from McDonald’s. This one actually cause a visceral reaction from me because, well, it is just an awful thing to see. First of all, “are” should be “our.” Second, “we” should not be capitalized. Lastly, the “and” is unnecessary and should be deleted. In which case, you could keep “we” capitalized.
