Since when did I start making this mistake…

If there is any one grammar mistake that we studied this week, it would be the misuse of the word since. I honestly didn’t even realize it was a mistake since I use it all the time. But because of this weeks assignment I am starting to realize the errors of my ways. In fact, “due to” is about to become a larger part of my writing vocabulary after this week. The reality of it is that I have used “since” because I thought that I was using “because” too often. Rather than being repetitive I unknowingly opted to be grammatically incorrect instead. But now I know better and can begin the other half of the battle–not misusing the word anymore. Because now I know that because is a conjunction that can be used to introduce a reason or explanation and since cannot. Since, however, can also be used as a conjunction but is usually used when showing time.
For my bad grammar example, I took a look at the then/than section of the reading and applied it to a misinformed fan of my favorite football team. There is a chance that some of you may have seen it as it has been shared across Facebook and was first featured on ESPN College Game Day’s Facebook Page and later across many of the local news outlets. The responses for this particular fan may have been negative, but at least he enjoyed a good game. And most importantly the best team came away with the win.

  3. This was honestly so embarrassing. I don't understand how he messed it up, I almost felt bad for the kid. Than and then is something that tends to trick people yet it is so easy to not mess up. Than is simply comparing something.
