The 11th secret, write on your own time.

I've written a lot of different types of projects over my life. From lyrics, poems, five paragraph essays, and 20 page papers I've adversely typed a ton of words. My grammar hasn't always been perfect, and neither is it perfect today. One secret I've found to having better writing either grammatically or stylistically is to write on your own time. Another thing I will add is that I am not procrastinating this assignment. My intentions were to wait until the weekend to type this up because I wanted to have several ideas and narrow it down to one. Rather than calling it "procrastination," I am choosing to wait in order to have the best idea possible. This is not always the best tip, sometimes writing down immediately what is on your mind will be your best work. The secret is that if you feel something that has a burning desire to be written, then do so. Don't wait until the last minute because you can, always be ready to give your best work possible when needed. I've found that when writing lyrics or poems my best work comes when the idea come naturally, sometimes when I don't even have writing utensils or a computer in front of me to jot down my ideas. As for papers, the best secret is to write down every idea you have that way there are options for you. The best tip I can give for #11 is that you truly have to write on your own time. When writing on "me" time I can give what I want. When a teacher tells you to have a 10 page paper due next time in class, you may not have a ton of time to type that paper, but you truly need to find your own time to churn out ideas rather than forcing them.
This one is obviously not my picture, but driving through the Denver interstate this past weekend I noticed the non "It's" the law signs. Driving in a high traffic, non familiar area I was not inclined to take a picture and try to get myself killed for this blog. Luckily for me when I got home, I googled this same problem and it appears other people have noticed it as well.

U for you bothers me immensely. I had a best friend in high school who would always text me "what u doing?" I don't think I can be anymore clear that U is just a letter, you is the word you are looking for. I don't care if it's easier, quicker, "better?" please use the correct form of you. It's almost disrespectful if YOU don't.

This bottom one that is large so you can see the text and is from a Denver Broncos blog I follow. I don't often comment, but I like to read what everyone has to say. Reading "But" at the start of a sentence sometimes looks silly. But other times it seems like it is an acceptable way to start a sentence. (See what I did there?) When you are typing a sentence like "I like water, but it's tasteless." it doesn't make sense to type "But" as a beginner, because both parts are not complete thoughts that can stand on their own. There are grammar rules to follow when starting with "but."

  1. I agree with you! Several people find proper grammar to be "nitpicky." From what I read in your post, it seems like a lot of people on the Internet (and on the highways) don't see a need for correct grammar. I liked how to mentioned respect. Using English correctly is respecting it. I had never thought about it like that before.

  2. I hate Internet slang so much. It honestly makes me not want to be friends with someone when they text me "Hey u watz up?" or something similar. It makes you sound stupid, plain and simple. And yes, I agree, it seems like people think anyone who cares about grammar is snobby or something. That's just ridiculous.
