My name is Anna Fiorello but I go by “Katy”. I was born in Long Beach, California but I have lived in Utah for far too long now. My family isn’t very big, it is just me and my two siblings but if you walk into a room with us it sounds like there are twenty people in there because we are so loud. We went through a lot together while we were growing up so our bond is very special. I am several years younger than both my brother and my sister but that hasn’t stopped us from being each other’s best friends.  I have been with my husband who is also just as loud as us for six years. We just had our first daughter a year ago and it has been the most amazing, crazy, and fun year. She has probably been the easiest baby in the world which has made me terrified to have another one but my husband is dying to have his football team.
I have been attending Weber for the last two years and have about two years left to go. I am majoring in Communication Public Relations and Marketing. I am possibly going to do a minor in Civic Advocacy but I don’t know for sure yet. I chose communications because I am not sure what field I want to be in and I think this will give me a good set of skills that I can use in many different areas and positions. I have had a good experience since being enrolled in college. It can be challenging to balance work, school, family, self, and fun but I have found that it is possible with some good time management and considerably less sleep than most people.
I have worked at a company called UAW-LETC for the past six years. UAW-LETC is a non-profit organization that trains Job Corps students in the automotive field. I have done several different positions including placement, recruitment, and student services. All though working there has some challenges I still find it so enjoyable because I get to work with such a diverse population. We have about three hundred students enrolled and they come from all over the world. I have been exposed to so many different cultures and ways of life it has been a really great experience for me, there is never a dull moment. I can’t imagine going to work and not being able to have a new experience every day.
I have a lot of interests that I like to engage in as much as I can when I find time away from work and school. I love to work out and be active whether that means going to the gym or on a hike through the canyon. I love to cook, all my friends describe me as a “fat girl trapped in a skinny girl’s body”. I am always in the kitchen trying something new. I was raised in the kitchen on home cooking so I like to cook for my family and friends; this is probably my husband’s favorite quality about me. My favorite thing to do is travel. I love to experience new things so I really like to dive into new cultures when I am traveling. I barely sleep when I am on vacation because I want to be able to experience everything when I go somewhere new. I have been lucky enough to travel to several different places but I am hoping to always be able to do that. Everyone keeps telling me it will be a lot harder now that I have a baby but I think it will be a good experience for her to be able to learn about different cultures starting at a young age. I know that being in such a culturally diverse family has made me a very open and accepting person.
I am excited to take this class and get to know more about all of you. Editing is not a strong area for me so this should be a great learning experience for me!

  1. Hi, Katy! Your family and mine are pretty much complete opposites. I have a four step-siblings, and we're all pretty quiet. The last time I flew back home, there were six of us in the house, but it was so quiet that I started making extra amounts of noise to compensate. The silence was freaking me out since there were so many of us there.

I have yet to find that balance. My time management skills aren't the greatest and I love sleep too much to give it up. Maybe you can teach me a thing or two? :)

  2. I think it is so great that you have so many interests. For example, I envy your cooking hobby. My idea of cooking is melting cheese on top of things. I would love to have the ability to enjoy cooking the way you do.

Keep your interests a big part of your life. If you like to travel, then travel. It sounds to me like Jordan mentioned above that you are great at time management. Keep that strength as an important thing in your life. You will be so successful.
