Hello everyone! My name is Valleen—sometimes you will see me appear as “Debra Nye”, I go by my middle name. You can call me “Val” for short. I have lived in Utah most of my life but was born in Arizona. I moved to Utah when I was one year old but I have been back to Arizona almost twice a year since I left. Both feel like home to me.
I am taking this class as part of my Communication minor for my BIS degree. My other two areas of study are English and sociology. If all goes according to plan, I will be graduating in December of this year! I am really excited about that because it has taken me a long time to get to this point. I went the family route instead of the education route after high school. So I have attempted to “come back” to college three or four times now, but the last two years have been most consistent. Although at a slower pace, I have steadily worked my way to a degree while working full time and raising an awesome son.
I have a ten year old son named Tavin, he is the center of my world. He is a super cool kid who is full of life. He is a natural athlete and plays every sport imaginable—currently playing football, he also excels in soccer, baseball, and basketball. We also enjoy hiking, biking, camping, and riding dirt bikes. We love to go to ReaL Salt Lake soccer games, although we are fans of English football (soccer) and often watch Arsenal games on TV. We are also huge baseball fans. I have taken my son to spring training to watch the San Francisco Giants play for the past few years. I have personally been to over 50 professional baseball games. I love it!
I have ten years professional marketing experience. I have had large companies as clients, such as HTC, Logitech, Microsoft, and Home Depot. I have done everything from traditional marketing to event management, and everything in between. I am currently working for a software and app development company called, EventBoard. We have an iPad app that helps businesses with conference room booking and resource management. We also offer analytics for business to look at how they are utilizing their resources and how they can save money by reducing the amount of meetings, space, etc. It is a start-up but we are doing really well! We have some huge names as clients—Disney, Apple, Uber, and SnapChat. It is a different gig for me, being on the sales side, but I am really loving it. I feel like I have been selling products through marketing for 10 years and now I can finally reap the monetary benefits of understanding the sales process.
Aside from my son and work, I really enjoy being outdoors and traveling. I just got home from China in May, so you may hear me talk about it from time to time. . I like riding my road bike and my dirt bike. I love to bake and (oddly enough) organize things. I am a huge animal lover and would have every homeless pet, if I could! I am a sucker for a cute pup!

Congrats on your upcoming commencement. That's exciting. I too decided to take the family route after high school and never regretted it once until I decided to go back to school. I love that you love to organize things, I'm a organization freak like that too. My husband banned bins from the garage, who does that?! He doesn't know what he's missing, until he can't find it. :D
