Punctuation; thou shalt not kill

Bad punctuation drives me insane. Talking to someone whether it be on Facebook, Twitter, or though text message that can effectively use proper punctuation will keep me sane for the time being. I don't understand why adding a period . or exclamation mark ! or comma , to a sentence can be so difficult, but clearly my generation has failed. Grammar is important for a few reasons, 1. when writing with proper grammar it is easier to read. 2. When reading someone who writes with proper grammar you think more highly of them.
I don't mean to use the vulgar word, but this meme is so true. I don't think this is funny, it is simply true. You have to be able to tell the difference between you're and your. Even if you know the difference, but you are too lazy to type the extra " 're " then I don't want to associate with you. I typed this as a comment to someone already, but I dated a girl who could never figure out your/you're. I would constantly get texts like "your hot" "your funny" "your great" and every time it made me like her a little less. (We were in high school and early college years) Eventually when the relationship couldn't continue I made sure to tell her that she needed to figure out that simply grammar error out because it was ridiculous.

Even though this is such a simple concept and I'm absolutely sure that everyone in this college level UD class knows it, you're is a contraction for the TWO words "you" and "are" therefore that apostrophe ' is completely necessary for the words to make sense.

  1. The thing about being lazy is, the more you use the incorrect form, the more it'll start to look normal to you. Eventually, you stop recognizing that it's wrong.

  2. In all fairness text messages aren't usually subject to a particularly high grammatical standard. Granted it's a symptom of the social media generation that such laziness is pretty common, but even the most educated people will cut corners in text messages. I challenge you to find someone whose every text message has a period at the end of every sentence and completely proper capitalization.
