Hello!
My name is Lauren Mongie. I’m probably not
the most interesting person in the world, but I will still try to make this
blog entry a fascinating read:
A long time ago, in the cold wastes of
Michigan, a child was born. The child was not a prodigy or the promised
Messiah, but her parents thought she was pretty awesome. The child, Lauren, was
one of many sisters. Unsurprisingly, she became the sort little girl that loves
Barbie dolls and dancing. This love of dancing would follow her into her later
years in the form of ballroom dance.
But Lauren’s life was not all dancing and
Barbies. When she was young, her father would read stories to her. Lauren loved
the idea of being able to get a story of Hobbits and knights from a stack of
bound pages. Once she learned to read, she became a bookworm. Actually, she
became a book monster. She devoured book after book, but was never satisfied.
Her never-ending hunger for words and stories plagues her to this day.
Lauren eventually grew up and graduated high
school (she was one of the nerdiest kids of her graduating class). When this
magical day finally arrived, she decided that she wanted to see the world. She
decided tha the easiest way to accomplish this was to serve an LDS mission. She
somehow convinced God that she was responsible enough to talk about Jesus to
the Chinese people of Australia. Speaking Mandarin in Melbourne, Australia was
awesome. She held a baby joey (kangaroo) and ate chicken feet.
As you can see, my life isn’t the most
exciting thing ever. But it has definitely been good enough for me.
I recently moved to Utah from Michigan and am
adjusting to the near-constant sunshine (Michigan is the land of eternal clouds
and rain) and dry air. I am a major studying Public Advertising and
Copywriting. Even though this is my senior year, I took early college in high
school. So this is my first actual year of attending a university. I hope to
graduate with my bachelor’s this spring.
I work at the Weber State Bookstore on the
Davis Campus. I enjoy the people I work with and enjoy being around books even
more. I don’t have a boyfriend right now and am expecting to spend the rest of
my days as a spinster. For the moment, my Yorkie and collection of Disney films
provide enough company.
I am a fairly relaxed person. I don’t like
stress so I tend to try and get things done as soon as possible. I value hard
work but am generally easy-going. My family members have told me that I have a
“witch mode” that I slip into when stressed or anxious. When not doing
homework, I can usually be found reading a good book or going on a jog. I’m
also a fan of writing in journals and scrapbooking. I also love eating food and
will often go out with friends to neat and funky restaurants around Salt Lake
City. Any restaurant recommendations are welcome.
It’s very nice to meet (read) you! Everyone
have a great semester in Editing!
This is a picture of my sisters and I at Disneyland this year. I am the one in the middle.
