About Me - Sara Baldwin

My name is Sara Baldwin. I am a 25-year-old senior in journalism. I have been interested in journalism since junior high. I have worked on yearbooks, newspapers, magazines, blogs and websites; both for school and work. I enjoy writing, editing, layout design and basic photography.

My hobbies include: roller derby, kickboxing and yoga. I am the captain of my roller derby team in Salt Lake City. We are called Wasatch Roller Derby. We compete internationally and are ranked top 40 in the world. I love roller derby because it is a full-contact sport available to women. It’s also full of diversity and offers a very accepting fun culture.

I love to eat healthy, cook at home and try new recipes. I also enjoy eating out and trying different ethnic foods. My favorite places right now are Vietnamese, Thai and Korean restaurants. My favorite American style restaurant is Hearth on 25th in downtown Ogden. 

I have grown up in Utah and lived around the valley my whole life. I have traveled to many states and a couple countries but would really like to do some serious international travel or live in Europe. I have never been to Europe and would love to explore.

I have one younger brother who has been traveling the world to follow his passion of cooking. He has been a chef in Australia and currently New York. My mother owns her own hair salon and my father works for himself as a paint contractor. I work for the IRS. It is pretty boring and not very challenging but it pays well enough that I only have to work part-time. I also do some freelance work for a yearbook publishing company. My extended family on my mother’s side is close and we love to spend holidays and special events celebrating together.

I have been dating my boyfriend Christian for three years this month. He is Russian and his parents emigrated from the former Soviet Union as political refugees. It has been a pleasure getting to know his family and some of their culture. His mother’s food is amazing! He is a mechanical engineer graduate from the U. He has been working and looking for international opportunities in the hopes of possibly relocating. 

I love the outdoors and nature. Camping, hiking, swimming and fishing are my favorite summer activities. I spent a summer in Yellowstone after high school and the area is one of my favorite places. I really enjoy Utah for its geographic diversity and beauty. However, I dislike the air quality, population growth and the political atmosphere. 

I can be very passionate about politics and consuming international news. One of my favorite aspects of journalism is investigative journalism that sheds light on corruption. I am currently very interested in the Bernie Sanders campaign. I have been a fan of the senator since high school and specifically enjoy his involvement with Federal Reserve banking issues and his demand to repeal the Citizens United case. I also stand with him on almost every other issue and might die of shock and happiness if he actual made it to presidency. Ha that probably tells you a lot about me.
